A connection checklist for a remote MCP server
Connecting a remote MCP server involves more than pasting a URL. A successful setup needs a compatible transport, a supported authorization flow, and tools visible under the granted credential.
Check the layers separately
Start with the exact server endpoint. For Baleybots, the documented production endpoint is https://api.edge.baleybots.com/mcp using Streamable HTTP. Then verify authorization and tool discovery. A transport connection with an empty catalog can be an authorization or scope issue; it is not necessarily a network failure. Keep the client's version and the observed error when troubleshooting.

Try it on a small example
- Confirm that the client supports the server's transport.
- Complete the documented OAuth or API-key flow.
- List tools and run one harmless read operation before writes.
What to verify
Separate HTTP failures from protocol errors and tool execution errors. Retrying a write is different from retrying discovery. Baleybots exposes OAuth metadata and dynamic client registration alongside /mcp, and tool visibility depends on the credential's scope. This checklist describes the documented interface; it does not establish that a particular client's sign-in is currently healthy. A real end-to-end connection test is still required.
